The MX5

I bought a Mazda MX5 NC 2.0 Sport, and have been modifying and maintaining it ever since. Partly to learn how a car actually works and how to do my own servicing, partly because it is adult Lego and genuinely fun to play with. It turns out the same systems thinking I use at work applies just as well to a car: same engineering discipline, different platform.

In 2024 I took it to the Nurburgring, which is about as good a test of a car (and its owner) as you can ask for.

Road Trips

The MX5 has done various trips out to Wales, and further afield. The dumbest thing I have ever done in it was book a dinner table in Inverness while a bit tiddled at a friend's wedding, then tell everyone to meet at a McDonald's in Bristol to begin the convoy North. The trip itself didn't happen until two years later: up to Skye, back down to Edinburgh, and finally home to the West Country, arriving just in time for that dinner reservation.

I have done similar road trips since, minus the wedding-induced booking decisions. I have plenty of photos from these trips that I'll get around to adding here.
